The international policy of the Academy aims to develop international cooperation and integration into the European and global academic community, to support and facilitate student and teacher exchange, to ensure high quality standards in higher education in the arts. The Academy cooperates with more than 80 partners in Europe. Cooperation is based on short-term educational activities (such as master-classes, workshops, seminars by guest professors), academic staff and student exchanges (Erasmus programme), cultural events (concerts, joint programmes, competitions, festivals), internships/placements (Leonardo Da Vinci programme), and research activities (conferences, symposia, individual and joint research projects). These activities are supported at national and regional levels (Baltic, Nordic/Baltic), by European programmes (LLP, Culture 2000, Media Training, Tempus, Grundtvig, Leonardo, Framework 6, eContent), European funds and academic programmes, embassy projects offered by governments of European and other countries, their diplomatic missions in Lithuania, and transnational programmes (UNESCO, Japanese Cultural Grant Aid, USA Fulbright). The major student and teacher exchanges are organised through the EU Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) - Erasmus, which affords a unique opportunity for students to spend a study period in partner institutions at no cost and often including an Erasmus grant. Students can also participate in short intensive study programmes, so called IP projects. More about the LLP here; read practical information for mobile students and teachers here. The most important international projects organised by the Academy have been: Nordic/Baltic Youth Chamber Orchestra (1993, 1995), international theatre summer school Baltic Seaside Drama (1996, coordinated by the Helsinki Theatre Academy), international choir and orchestra academy in Vilnius (1997, organized together with the Bachakademie Stuttgart), international summer master class for young opera singers and orchestra performers The Magic Flute in Nida (1998 with a support of the Austrian Embassy), EC Socrates/Erasmus IP projects – ERASMUS Conducting Course (2000, 2001 and 2002), “International workshop for film schools Summer video studio” (2001, 2002 and 2003), and “Inter-arts workshop We make an Opera” (2004) - www.lmta.lt/opera, and EC Media Training project “Summer MEDIA Studio” (projects coordinated in 2004, 2006, 2007) - www.summermediastudio.com. The true face of the Academy is the artistic activity by both students and professors including over 400 concerts per year; students’ participation in national and international orchestras, international concerts, performances, competitions, and festivals; competitions and international events organised by the Academy – The International JASCHA HEIFETZ Violin Competition (www.heifetzcompetition.com), The International Competition for Singers and Pianists-Accompanists, The International Competition of Piano Duos, International Accordion and Folk Music Festivals, International Conferences for Ethnomusicologists, and a number of master-classes; events organised in cooperation with the Academy - The International M.
