The Student Union (SU) The Students Union is an independent non-political organisation dedicated to the interests and needs of all LMTA students. The main goal of the SU is to represent both individual students and the student body as a whole. We ensure the views of students are delivered to the Academy, Government and other organisations that affect student life. The LMTA SU is here to help students get the very best out of their time at the Academy. The SU also revives old and creates new student traditions, organises cultural activities, helps develop friendships between Lithuanian and foreign students and ties with other youth organizations. What is the Mentor Programme? You may imagine that studying in Vilnius might be scary and quite an experience, but things are indeed easier than you think, especially if you have somebody to help you around. This somebody is called a mentor – a Lithuanian student who’s eager to know different cultures, as well as to share his/her own. You may expect this volunteer student to help you with the boring and complicated official procedures, such as the Migration Office. In addition, with the mentor’s help you may learn to know other Lithuanians or the best places to party. How does it work? After you make up your mind to study abroad and enrol for a semester at the Academy, and if you submit your contact info to our International Relations Office correctly – then the coordinator of the mentor programme or your-mentor-to-be contacts you. When you confirm your arrival date and place, then (as agreed) the mentor meets you and can show you the way to the dormitory/flat, the Academy, International Relations Office, local bank, etc. What’s next? Mentors, together with the LMTA SU and Vilnius University Students’ Representation, organise a complete adventure programme for you. This programme starts with the orientation week, when all internationals meet and are guided around the Academy’s buildings and other “must-see-in the first week” sites in Vilnius. This stressful week usually ends up with a loud party…ok ok, it might not be loud – it all depends on you J. And then? Depending on your needs and wishes, you may keep in touch with the mentor who was assigned to you or with any other mentor you prefer (they are all really ready to help). During the semester we offer a variety of activities –tours around Vilnius or trips to Lithuania’s most visited places, organise common parties or share common problems. If you’re a real trouble-maker, we’ll learn to deal with that – we’ll show you the shops that are open 24 hours a day, the doctor’s or dentist’s office, help you with translation in the local market and many other things that you may need. The Happy Farewell According to our plan, you fall in love with the country, with the people here and even the bench in Vokiečių Street and you’re about to cry when you think of leaving. But when you leave Vilnius you definitely tell all your friends to come back; to meet these crazy Lithuanians and try their national food and drinks and… maybe keep in touch with the best thing that ever happened to you – the Mentor. That’s what this Mentor Programme is all about. Any questions? You’re always welcome at inter@lmta.lt Lithuanian student card – LSP When you become a student at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, you get a Lithuanian student identity card (Lietuvos studento pažymėjimas or LSP in short). The card is the document that proves you are a student. With LSP you can reserve classrooms at the Academy for studies, go to the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre (www.opera.lt) for free. Discounts for public transport, some museums and concerts are also offered for LSP holders. How to acquire an LSP? You will get your student card approximately one week after applying.
