LMTA Senate Approves Appointment of New Vice-Rectors
At the Senate’s meeting of 22 September, the newly elected rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Judita Žukienė proposed two candidates for the positions of LMTA Vice-Rector for Studies and Vice-Rector for Art and Research, Prof. Rūta Rikterė and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramunė Balevičiūtė respectively. As the Senate has approved the proposed candidates, the new Rector’s Office is to take on their duties on 1 October 2021 for a five-year term.
The newly appointed Vice-Rector for Studies Prof. Rūta Rikterė is a pianist and graduate of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (1986) where she also pursued her assistantship programme (1989). Since 1989, Rūta Rikterė has taught at the LMTA. In 1999, she was awarded the title of Associate Professor and in 2009 became Professor. In 1988, together with pianist Zbignevas Ibelgauptas, Rūta Rikterė established a piano duo which won the Lithuanian National Cultural and Art Award in 1997. Apart from teaching at the Academy, Rūta Rikterė runs international master classes and is a member of the jury of national and international competitions. Currently, Professor Rūta Rikterė acts as Head of the LMTA Piano Department, is Chair of the Doctoral Committee, and Chair of the LMTA Senate.
The new Vice-Rector for Art and Research – Associate Professor, Doctor of Humanities Ramunė Balevičiūtė graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre as a theatre researcher. Currently, Ramunė Balevičiūtė is Head of the LMTA Department of Art History and Theory: she teaches History of Theatre, runs seminars on theatre criticism, and supervises final theses. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramunė Balevičiūtė takes an active part in the activity of the LMTA Art Doctorate Programme. She is the editor-in-chief of the journal Teatro žurnalas, an author of books and articles, and plays an active role as a theatre critic.
