New Rector of LMTA Inaugurated!

Associated Professor Dr. Judita Žukienė was officially inaugurated as the Rector of Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre during the Inauguration Ceremony on 25 March 2022.

The new Rector took the oath of office and promised to take care of the community. The chairman of Council Robertas Dargis and the chairwoman of the Senate Prof. Dr. Lina Navickaitė-Martinelli presented the new Rector with the insignia of office: the sceptre and the chain.

Chairman of the Committee on Culture of Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Prof. Vytautas Juozapaitis, President of the Lithuanian University Rectors’ Conference, Rector of Vilnius University Prof. Rimvydas Petrauskas, chairman of the Supreme Council – Restoration Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Prof. Vytautas Landsbergis extended their warmest congratulations to the new Rector Judita Žukienė. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonytė, the Minister of Education, Science and Sports dr. Jurgita Šiugždinienė and the Mayor of Vilnius Remigijus Šimašius also sent their congratulations.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Judita Žukienė is a musicologist; she holds a doctoral degree in Humanities and is Associate Professor at the LMTA. From 2005 to 2011, Judita Žukienė was Head of the Department of Music History.  In 2011-2021, Judita Žukienė acted as LMTA Vice-Rector for Science, and in 2021 was elected LMTA Rector for a five-year term. Rector has been in office since 1 October 2021.

Judita Žukienė’s research interests range from history of Lithuanian music in 20th century, aesthetics of music, and methodology of artistic research to music education. Judita Žukienė has published scientific articles and other publications aiming at promoting science and is a co-author of several books.
