“My search for vision in theatre-making is not restricted by what the current understanding of performance is, or what it should be, but rather fueled by the question – what it could be?” – Milda Al-Slamah.
This performative lecture, created as part of Milda Al-Slamah’s doctoral research, describes her on-going attempt to answer the question – if I was to distance myself from the current theatrical industry context, defined by the hierarchy of theatre-making machinery and a chase for socio-economic status, what kind of theatre would I be making? In a search of an answer to this question, you will be taken to places near and far – from an international arts festival in Lebanon, to an international science conference in Sicily; from the shores of the distant Aotearoa, to the familiar territory of Balcony theatre; from the drama that takes place on stage – to the drama that emerges within… While recounting the adventures of her doctoral research journey, which features the making of performances “Connections”, (in)security and MIND THE GAP, Milda will present a different kind of performance practice, the concept of which came as an answer to her quest – the Theatre of Consciousness.
The lecture will be in English.
