The Symphony Orchestra of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, founded in 1953, is the second oldest currently active symphony orchestra in Lithuania. The orchestra is composed of students from the string, wind and percussion departments, who gather each spring and autumn for joint music-making and present new programmes. During this time, the Academy’s spaces are filled with the sounds of rehearsals, and the walls resonate with the powerful and vibrant sound of the orchestra.
Over the years, the orchestra has been led and developed by some of Lithuania’s most prominent conductors and performers: Abelis Klenickis, Jurgis Fledžinskas, Juozas Domarkas, Gintaras Rinkevičius, Laurynas Vakaris Lopas, Robertas Šervenikas.
Since 2013, the orchestra has been under the artistic direction of Prof. Martynas Staškus.
In both concerts – in Birštonas and Vilnius – the orchestra’s Artistic Director will be joined by assistant conductor Marius Rinkevičius (class of Prof. Gintaras Rinkevičius).
