The International Accordion Competition “Vilnius 2021”
On 1–10 April 2021 the International Accordion Competition “Vilnius 2021” is to be held online at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre organized by the LMTA Department of Accordion.

According to professor Raimondas Sviackevičiusthe, Artistic director of competition, President of the Lithuanian accordionists association and Head of Accordion department at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, “International accordion competition in Vilnius for many years already is promoting professional accordion art, calling to look for new creative forms, presenting novelties of accordion performing art as well as high level of young generation performers and work of professional teachers. Event having already best reputation from professionals is highly recognized not only in Lithuania but widely around the world too.”
These special accordion event, which is organized every two years, this year due to pandemic situation all over the world has been changed from traditional form to online version.
Prof. R. Sviackevičius: “I must say, that all of us we are so missing live chatting, real meetings, live sound from the stage and eye contact. This time is a big challenge for all of us and is especially difficult for culture, it needs strong devotion, inner motivation to keep joy of playing music as well as special work keeping long-lasting accordion traditions.
All of us, artists, teachers will continue spreading positive musical energy, involving our pupils, students to keep them lively active, showing them, that art need deep profound work, patience and self-criticism. And this year, which changed plans is only temporary moment of stop. Keeping each other positive we are waiting for music which will be shared in halls full of public and our beautiful instrument – accordion with help of talented artists will open its extremely wide technical possibilities and rich tone palette.
Since 1994 Lithuanian accordionists association together with Lithuanian academy of music and theater organizing International accordion competition every second spring. This year we can not meet in Vilnius, participants can’t feel beautiful city atmosphere, but virtually we will be all together. Having possibilities to share music by internet at this time we will feel the enthusiasm of young power, motivation of performers which has perfect chance to share their art with high professional Jury members and public. As many competitions around the world, event in Vilnius has the aim to motivate and confirm young performers level going forward to higher professional carrier. It is trampoline to real musicians live, a platform to share teachers work, unique space for professional accordion art to emanate and unfold its deepest attractiveness.
Competition traditionally is divided to 12 categories: soloists, chamber group with age categories and accordion orchestras. We hope the geography of participant countries will be as wide as last years and probably online competition platform will open possibilities for countries which are on other continents.
We are extremely proud, that our competition has highest level professional Jury members, world known accordion professors from leading World Academies and Universities, well known performers and acknowledged pedagogues.
