Gediminas Dačinskas (b. 1971), one of the most distinguished Lithuanian viola players and a chamber music performer. He studied at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in the class of Professor Petras Radzevičius and Mozarteum University Salzburg (Austria) with Professor Thomas Riebl.
Violist Gediminas Dačinskas possesses a tremendous variety of creative activities and interests ranging from the ancient music to classicism and avant-garde. Since 2003, the musician has devoted a major part of his professional life to the Čiurlionis Quartet, a state-funded division of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society. With the quartet, Gediminas Dačinskas has participated in festivals Pražské jaro (the Prague Spring), International Festival Janácek May (Janáčkův máj) and Moravian Autumn Festival (the Czech Republic); Berliner Festwochen and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival (Germany); Gent Festival van Vlaanderen (the Netherlands); Merano Music Festival (Austria), Europamusicale Festival Strings; Amadeo (Slovenia), St. Magnus International Festival (the UK), and others. Besides, violist Gediminas Dačinskas is a frequent guest of the most prominent Lithuanian festivals so you may regularly see him performing at major concert halls of Lithuania.
The musician places immense importance to the promotion of the Lithuanian music both at home and worldwide and regularly includes works by Lithuanian composers in his concert programmes. The violist has played works by Lithuanian composers on the stages of Germany, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Italy, Canada, Russia, the UAE, the USA, Mexico, Japan, China, and many others. In addition to well-known works, the musician usually includes modern or rarely performed pieces in his repertoire, performs them on the radio or releases as CDs.
Gediminas Dačinskas has played solo with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, the Šiauliai Chamber Orchestra, the Gaida Festival Ensemble, Salzburg Orchestra Pro Musica, the Mozarteum University Symphony Orchestra, and others. Since 1998, Gediminas Dačinskas has taken part in the activity of the Vilnius New Music Ensemble. He has played with, among others, ensembles Trio Advance and The Camerata Salzburg (Austria) and performed with the Darmstadt State Opera (Germany).
Apart from teaching at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre that violist Gediminas Dačinskas joined in 2009, he also runs master classes in Lithuania, Mexico, and Switzerland.
