Nora Petrochenko (b. 1974) is an internationally acknowledged singer (mezzo-soprano) who in 2020 joined the teaching staff of the Faculty of Music of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) to share her invaluable singing experience with the students of the Department of Choir Conducting.
Nora Petrochenko studied at the National M.K. Čiurlionis School of Art, and later earned master’s degree from the LMTA. The singer has developed her vocal skills with celebrated opera soloists Algirdas Janutas (tenor) and Liubov Khukhrova (soprano). She has also been a participant of master classes led by such accomplished performers as, among others, Helmuth Rilling, Rolandas Muleika, Hermann Max, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Roberto Gini, Claudine Ansermet, David Gowland, Alessandro Pagliazzi, and Roberto Balconi.
Nora Petrochenko has performed with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, the Vilnius City Municipality St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra, and Musica Humana Chamber Music Ensemble. Among other major events featuring the singer are her performances with SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg (Germany), Remix Ensemble (Portugal), Ensemble Multilatérale (France), Spectra Ensemble (Belgium), the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia (Belgium), Cappella Temporale and virtuoso violinist Dmitry Sinkovsky (Russia), as well as with such early music ensembles as Banchetto musicale (Lithuania), Morgaine (Germany, Italy, Lithuania), Brevis Consort (Lithuania) and Reversio (Lithuania).
Nora Petrochenko is a frequent and welcomed participant of numerous reputable festivals taking place in Lithuania – contemporary music festival Gaida, the International Thomas Mann festival, Pažaislis Music Festival, Tytuvėnai Summer Festival, Banchetto Musicale Early Music Festival, Chamber Music Summer Festival Kuršių Nerija – and abroad such as Musica (Strasbourg, France) Berliner Festspiele (Berlin, Germany), Lucerne Festival (Liucerne, Switzerland), RomaEuropa ( Rome, Italy), Biennale Musica (Venice, Italy) among others.
Nora Petrochenko’s joint project with T&M Musical Theatre in Paris has yielded enormous success. One of her most distinguished parts at this theatre is that of Lady Margaret Thatcher in the opera Aliados (conductor Léo Warynski, stage director Antoine Gindt) by Sebastian Rivas. At the Venice Biennale 2018, the opera Aliados received the Silver Lion Award. Nora Petrochenko has also created numerous memorable roles on the Lithuanian stage. One of them is Isabella in Albertas Navickas’ chamber opera Alpha (Operomanija, directed by Gintarė Minelgaitė) awarded with the Golden Cross of the Stage in 2018.
