Guitarist Saulius S. Lipčius is the fourth-generation musician in his family. Having been continuously exposed to the musical environment, he became seriously interested in the guitar at the age of twelve. In 2008, Saulius graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) and in the same year joined the teaching team of his alma mater.

Saulius S. Lipčius is an eager music performer. Saulius plays the classical guitar and the liuto forte, a kind of the lute that is unique in Lithuania. As a member of various ensembles, the musician participates in a wide range of concert projects. The guitarist enjoys performing together with other musicians, actors, and ensembles. Already in 1998, he started performing with his father, a former long-time cellist at the Čiurlionis Quartet. Since 1999, Saulius S. Lipčius has performed in the major Lithuanian and foreign concert halls and taken part in national and international festivals.

In 2004, Saulius S. Lipčius – together with other guitarists of the young generation – established the Baltic Guitar Quartet and a few years later the quartet was referred to as the leading guitar ensemble in the Baltic States.  A regular participant of the most prominent Lithuanian festivals and music events, the Baltic Guitar Quartet actively plays abroad too:  they have performed in more than 25 countries playing music in such prestigious concert halls as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Castle in Warsaw, Southbank Centre in London, Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, and others. The quartet has released three CDs: Live, Dancing with Guitar, and Tradición Nuevo, and in 2011, Saulius’ first solo CD named Guitar Temptations appeared.

Since 2017, the performer has been taking part in a variety of early music ensembles and projects: he has played the liuto forte and the baroque guitar at such events as Baroko pavasaris Biržuose (Baroque Spring in Biržai), Marco Scacchi Festival of Early Music, and Banchetto Musicale. Saulius is a laureate of several international and national competitions. The guitarist is often invited to perform the premiere of works by various composers. You can frequently listen to his recordings on the Lithuanian radio, too.

Saulius S. Lipčius’ students are winners of national and international competitions, while the guitarist himself is regularly invited to be a member of the jury at various international competitions.
