LMTA welcomes a newly elected rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Judita Žukienė
Rector’s election at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) has come to an end. The LMTA Council has elected musicologist, Doctor of Humanities and Associate Professor Judita Žukienė as a new leader of the Academy for a five-year term. Currently, Judita Žukienė is LMTA Vice-Rector for Science and will take up her duties as Rector from 1 October 2021.
In her five-year vision and activity guidelines for the LMTA, Judita Žukienė has emphasised the importance of bringing the Academy’s community together; the aspiration to position the LMTA as an attractive higher education institution both on the international level and as a regional leader; the enhancement of the quality of studies, and the consolidation of the network with social partners.
Jazz pianist, Professor Artūras Anusauskas also participated in the election as a candidate for the LMTA Rector’s position. Judita Žukienė will replace pianist Professor Zbignevas Ibelgauptas who was the LMTA Rector for two terms.
Judita Žukienė graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music in 1997. In 2001, she defended her doctoral thesis titled Non-specific Meanings of Music. In 2001, Judita Žukienė started teaching at the Department of Music History, first as a lecturer and since 2006 as Associate Professor. From 2005 to 2011, Judita Žukienė was Head of the Department of Music History, and in 2011 started to act as LMTA Vice-Rector for Science. In 1998-2003, Judita Žukienė also periodically worked as a scientific editor at the Science and Encyclopaedia Publishing Centre.
Judita Žukienė has also taught and took part in internship programmes at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in Latvia, the University of Arts in Belgrade, the Royal Danish Academy of Music, the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, Santa Cecilia Music Conservatory in Rome, the Orpheus Institute in Ghent, and the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp.
Judita Žukienė’s research interests range from history of Lithuanian music, aesthetics of music, and methodology of artistic research to music education. Judita Žukienė has published scientific articles and other publications aiming at promoting science and is a co-author of several books. In addition, she has conducted scientific projects and participated in the work of numerous work groups and committees.
