Klaipėda Faculty celebrates 50th anniversary. Discover. Learn. Experience.
The LMTA Klaipėda Faculty that merged with the LMTA just several years ago celebrates its 50th anniversary! The Klaipeda Faculty —a leader of performing arts studies in Western Lithuania —is to reveal its artistic identity throughout a series of celebration events that are going to take place for almost a month (May 19-June 18) under the motto Discover. Learn. Experience.
Established in 1971, the Music Faculties in Klaipėda became part of the then Lithuanian State Conservatory in 1975. For 22 years, until 1997, the Faculties offered education to music education professionals, choreographers, and directors of amateur theatres. In 1997–2018, the Faculties were a subdivision of the Klaipėda University and eventually were transformed into the Academy of Arts of the Klaipėda University. In 2018, the Klaipėda Faculty again joined the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, thus becoming one of the three LMTA faculties, alongside the Faculty of Music and the Faculty of Theatre and Film.
The 50th Anniversary programme was opened in the morning of May 19 at the KF Learning Theatre by the performance Įkrauti (Charged), the final exam of the third-year students in Directing (lecturer Darius Rabašauskas). On May 20, the courtyard of the Klaipeda faculty hosted a concert Let’s Make Music Together featuring students of Eduardas Balsys Gymnasium of Arts, Klaipėda Stasys Šimkus Conservatory, and those of the LMTA Klaipėda Faculty (KF).
On May 22, 6 pm, the students in Vocal Performance and students in Folk Instruments (the KF Department of Music) together with the students of the KF Department of Dance are holding a concert May the Lithuanian Music Play. The event is to take place in the Klaipėda Sculpture Park near the Klaipėda Centre of National Cultures. If the weather does not permit for the outside event, the concert will take place in the LMTA KF Concert Hall.
May 26 invites you to as many as three (!) events. At 1 pm, the KF fourth-year students in Acting are going to present a visual performance of objects The Road of Love based on Rumi’s poetry (director Karolina Jurkštaitė). The performance takes place at Room 459 of the Klaipėda Faculty. At 5 pm, the KF courtyard holds a musical performance Tabulas musica (created by director Professor Valentinas Masalskis and composer Associate Professor Nijolė Sinkevičiūtė) by the KF second-year students in Acting. If the weather does not permit for the outside event, the performance will be held in the LMTA KF Concert Hall. At 6 pm, students in Vocal Performance, Piano, and String Instruments (the KF Department of Music) hold a concert Magic of the Classic open to all the citizens of the Klaipeda City. Weather permitting, the concert will take place in the courtyard of Klaipėda County Ieva Simonaitytė Public Library (otherwise, the lobby of the 1st floor of the library).
On May 27, 6 pm, the KF Learning Theatre is to show a contemporary drama performance (director Kornelija Krasilnikovaitė) by the fourth-year students in Acting based on Caryl Churchill’s play Love and Information.
The last weekend of May, the 29th and 30th, from 12 to 6 pm, invites the audience to Martynas Mažvydas Alley in Klaipėda to enjoy performances Fifty Instances of Culture by Year 1 students in Directing.
On June 3, 6 pm, students and graduates of the LMTA KF Department of Music will boost your mood with a real jazz fiesta Let’s Play Jazz that is to take place at the Raketa Social Club of the Creative Incubator Kultūros fabrikas.
On June 8, 6 pm, the LMTA KF Juozas Gudavičius Hall hosts contemporary dance compositions Sapnai (Dreams) by the students of the KF Dance Department (directed by Associate Professor Agnija Šeiko).
To echo the opening, the KF 50th Anniversary celebration programme also closes with a staged performance. On June 18, 11 am, the LMTA KF Year 1 students in Directing and Acting are to present their final exam performance (Tik)ėjimas (lecturer Darius Rabašauskas). The performance takes place in Room 211 of the LMTA Klaipeda Faculty.
All the events are free; however, registration is required. The number of spectators at the events will be limited in compliance with the instructions of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania in force on that day. Please follow the information on the Facebook page of the LMTA Klaipėda faculty regarding possible amendments to the programme.
