JOINT “ERASMUS+” OPERA COURSES FOR THE FIRST TIME AT THE LMTA
From February 1st to 13th, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre organizes joint Erasmus+ blended intensive courses (BIP) “Opera Creation, Performance and Improvisation Incubator” (OCIS). The course, organized together with the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp and Porto ESMAE is a part of the European Opera Academy.
LMTA is a member of the European Opera Academy network since 2017 and offers study modules for 16 European higher education institutions, which are members of the EOA. During the three year Erasmus+ strategic partnership project “EOA – Competence Centre of Shared Education In Opera Training“, Academy prepared a creative incubator “EOALAB” held in Vilnius (in 2020) and participated in the contemporary opera EOALABs held in Maastricht Conservatoire and Porto ESMAE. Inspired by the success of these incubators, LMTA together with partners in Antwerp and Porto joined the forces for the new intensive course OCIS which is partly funded by the programme Erasmus+.
18 students and 4 recently graduates from Belgium, France, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, and USA, and 16 LMTA students – 3 BA art managers, 3 MA theatre directors, 1 BA singer, 1 BA accordion player, 1 BA composer and 7 MA contemporary music performance and improvisation students participate in the course. Team of teachers includes contemporary vocal improvisation teachers Anne-Liis Poll (Estonia) and Bruno Pereira (Portugal), opera dramaturgy teacher – Gabrielė Labanauskaitė (LMTA), composition and creative collaboration – Steven Prengels (Belgium); contemporary music performance and composition – Vykintas Baltakas, composition and electronic music – Mantautas Krukauskas, improvisation – Arnas Mikalkėnas (LMTA).
Contemporary co-creative opera sketches developed during the interdisciplinary incubator will presented on February 12th, Saturday at 4 pm at the Balkonas Theatre of the LMTA (Central Building). Warm welcome. Entrance with Greed pass or relevant document.
