CROSSING KEYBOARDS: FINLAND

Performers:

Iivari Aalto
Ivari Aalto (b. 2001) currently studies with Tuija Hakkila and Visiting Professor Robert Levin at the Sibelius Academy. He has also studied with Kirill Kozlovski (2018–22). He has  attended master classes of Paavali Jumppanen, Péter Nagy and Magnus Lindberg.
Aalto plays chamber music regularly. He also plays old music on the harpsichord and fortepiano. He has worked as an orchestral pianist, and a rehearsal pianist for The Finnish National Theatre, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Opera Skaala and OperaBox. He was a recipient of the Pro Musica grant in 2022.

Nils Hansson Meng
Nils Hansson Meng (b. 1998, Stockholm) began his piano studies at the age of seven and he grew up in a musical environment. He became a student of Tuija Hakkila and Ilmo Ranta at the Sibelius Academy in 2017. During 2021-2022, he was an exchange student of Lucas Blondeel’s at the Universität der Kunste Berlin. Winner of several awards, Nils has performed at the Stockholm’s Berwaldhallen concert hall, the Royal Palace, the Swedish Parliament, as well as in various piano festivals. In Finland he has performed as a piano soloist with the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sakari Oramo, and with Erkki Lasonpalo and the Lappeenranta City Orchestra. Nils is also an active painter who likes to combine visual art and music, his two passions, to enrich his life.

Sadaeja Oh (Sayoko Wada) 
I am Sadaeja Oh (Sayoko Wada) from Japan and Korea. I started my studies at the Sibelius Academy, first as an Erasmus/Turning Scheme student in 2021-2022, and then as a regular Master’s degree student since autumn 2022. My teachers are Antti Siirala and Jussi Siirala. I have also attended master classes in the U.K. given by Mei Yi Foo, Imogen Cooper (2021), and Peter Donohoe (2020).

Joona Uusitalo

Joona Uusitalo’s piano study began at age five at the Järvenpää Suzuki School. He later studied with Mikko Haapaniemi, before entering the Sibelius Academy in 2019, where his teachers have been Erik T. Tawaststjerna and Antti Siirala. He has participated in master classes of Teppo Koivisto, Matti Raekallio and Robert Levin. Joona has participated in several piano competitions, among them, the International Krogulski Piano Competition 2018 (Third Prize/ Young Artist category), and the Nordic International Piano competition 2021 (third prize, and special prizes “Best Nordic participant” and “Best performance of a Nordic piece”).
