Margit Legler was born in Vienna, Austria. Following her carrier as a dancer in the Vienna State Opera Ballet and extensive participation in both contemporary and baroque choreographies, she has specialized in historical performance practices — dance, singing and acting.

Productions of baroque operas: 1994 Die Zauberflöte (Mozart – Tokyo), 1998 Il parnaso confuso (Gluck – Budapest), 2000 Il trionfo d’Amore (Gassmann – Ballenstedt), 2001 Dido & Aeneas (Purcell – Weimar), 2008 Dido & Aeneas (Purcell – Handel Festival Halle/Saale, Goethetheater Bad Lauchstädt), 2009 Il parnaso confuso (Gluck – Salzburg, Schönbrunn Castle in Vienna Schlosshof), 2012 INO (Telemann – Budapest), 2012 Il Parnaso confuso (Gluck – Aarhus, Grenå, Give in Denmark), 2013 Il Giuoco del Quadriglio (Caldara – Salzburg), 2014 La Corona (Gluck – Salzburg), 2016/17/18 Lucio Cornelio Silla (Handel – Herne, Handel Festival Göttingen, Baroque Theatre Ludwigsburg).

Extensive teaching activities all over Europe: In Austria these include Salzburg (Mozarteum and the Mozart Opera Institute), Innsbruck (“Innsbruck Baroque”), Graz and Vienna (“Resonaces”). Teaching assignments in “Historical Theatrical Dance for Singers” at the Vienna Music University (1989 to 2009) and since 2013 at the University Mozarteum Salzburg. Teaching assignments since 2006 in Historical Dance in the Department of Dance of the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK) and from 2010 in the Ballet School of the Vienna State Opera. Teaching assignment in Historical Acting Skills at the Mozart Opera Institute of the Salzburg Mozarteum since 2011. Appearances as a singer and dancer in historically informed performances.

Since the winter semester of 2015/16 Professor of “Historical Dance” and “Period Acting Techniques” at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK).
