PRESENTATION OF THE BOOK “LITHUANIAN-LATVIAN MUSICAL-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION IN THE SOVIET ERA IN PLACES OF POLITICAL PRISON AND EXILE”

Presentation of the the two-part book “Lithuanian-Latvian Musical-Cultural Communication in the Soviet Era in Places of Political Prison and Exile” published by the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre at the end of 2020. Gaila Kirdienė‘s monograph “Brotherhood and Unity” (first book) reveals the image of informal communication between Lithuanians and Latvians in prisons and exile in 1941–1952 and later: from a sense of community and common music, dance, traditional holidays to consolidation camps for freedom, personal as well as of all three Baltic States. The second book “Songs of Vorkuta” prepared by Daiva Vyčinienė reveals not only the way of life of Janis Lycytis, but also the whole situation of repression of Latvian musicians and making music during the years of Soviet occupation. For the first time, the Lycytis collection and a CD containing 29 songs from this collection are released.
