LMTA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA AND YOUNG SOLOISTS SPRING SESSION CONCERTS IN PLUNGĖ AND VILNIUS

The Symphony Orchestra of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, the second oldest of Lithuania’s symphony orchestras, has prepared an impressive programme for the spring session.

The LMTA Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1953. Abelis Klenickis, Jurgis Fledžinskas, Juozas Domarkas, Gintaras Rinkevičius, Laurynas Vakaris Lopas, Robertas Šervenikas, the most prominent Lithuanian masters and performers of the baton have worked with this youth orchestra at various times and have nurtured it. Since 2013 the orchestra has been led by conductor Prof. Martynas Staškus.
The LMTA Symphony Orchestra consists of students from the String and Wind and Percussion Departments, who come together in spring and autumn each year to play music together and prepare new programmes. The Academy’s spaces are then filled with the sounds of orchestral rehearsals, and the walls are filled with the majestic sound of the rehearsing ensemble. Guest conductors are often invited to work with the orchestra.
This time, the LMTA Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Ching-Ming Lu, a guest conductor from Taiwan, winner of the Eduard Mata International Conducting Competition and the Acknowledgement Award presented by the Austrian Government.

Together with the Symphony Orchestra, the solo programmes will be performed by LMTA students, laureates of international competitions – Lukas Pronskus, a student of violin class of Prof. Rūta Lipinaitytė, Birutė Ilčiukaitė, a student of viola class of Prof. Petras Radzevičius, Morta Jurkėnaitė, a student of Antanas Taločka’s clarinet class, Jose Vicente Fusco (marimba), a student of Sigitas Gailius’ percussion class.
