Born in Częstochowa, Maciej Zagórski started piano lessons at the age of seven. At the age of fourteen, Maciej Zagórski performed for the first time as a soloist accompanied by the Częstochowa Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 1989 Maciej Zagórski graduated with distinctions from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, professor Kazimierz Gierżod’s class, and continued his education under the supervision of professor Walter Fleischmann in Higher School of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He also participated in a number of master’s courses conducted by professors of Manhattan School of Music and Moscow Conservatory.
Maciej Zagórski is a laureate of the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz (1986) and of Polish Piano Music Festival in Słupsk (1990). In 2006 he received the Prize of the President of Częstochowa.
He has performed with South Bend Symphony (USA), Sinfonia Varsovia, National Philharmonic Orchestra, and other Polish symphonic ensembles, including a number of performances with Częstochowa Philharmonic Orchestra. Zagórski appears with solo and chamber recitals on stages in Poland and abroad, in many European countries and also in Japan, Palestine, Russia and the USA. He has recorded his performances for the Polish Radio and Television. His CDs include a selection of Roman Maciejewski mazurkas and the full set of Bach-Busoni transcriptions (Polskie Nagrania Edition 2002).
Since 1991 Maciej Zagorski has been affiliated with the Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa – from 2008 professor. He collaborated for ten years with Chair of Piano in Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. He worked in jury of piano competitions in Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Slovakia.
