CONCERT IS JUST A GAME II | DEFENCE OF MARTA FINKELŠTEIN (PIANO) ARTISTIC PROJECT

June 21, Wednesday, 18:00
LMTA Great Hall (Gedimino Ave. 42, Vilnius)

CONCERT IS JUST A GAME II

On the 12th of April 2016, the program Concert is just a game was played in the concert hall of the Lithuanian Music and Theater Academy, where pianist Marta Finkeltein organized the concert for the first time. This experience opened her up to the importance of choosing each concert element and raised questions about the concert tradition and its expression in contemporaneity. In the project curated for Synaesthesis ensemble, she experimented with the possibilities of spaces, contexts, and formats and each of their impact on the dynamics of a musical event.

The program “Concert is just a game II” played in the same hall seven years later, is the artistic part of the defense of the doctoral thesis Curating Music in Contemporaneity: Contexts, Lithuanian Scene, and Ensemble Synaesthesis.

The program focuses on instrumental expression in contemporaneity, where the sound environment is fragmented, synthesized, and distorted. Via compositions by Brigittos Mutendorf, Raphaël Cendo, Fausto Romitelli and MirelaIvičević current sound reality invades the performers field of expression, demanding a new kind of virtuosity, balancing on the edge of impossibility; alternative methods of sound production that are reached through extended techniques, bodily sounds, and additional objects. Meanwhile, the formation of the interpretation balances between rhythmic dictatorship and expressive strokes of texture.

Brigitta Muntendorf – Shivers on Speed
