The world is closing in
And did you ever think
That we could be so close like brothers?
The future’s in the air, I can feel it everywhere
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away

Rave and Riot are harmoniously complementary social spaces where authentic individuality – the feeling of “I am me” – is transformed into a sense of community. Through mutually embodied behavior, individual existence enters a collective zone where one becomes part of the whole.
We are thrown into freedom. Condemned to freedom. We are free to choose, but we cannot not choose. We unanimously understand that our existence in a rave is based on free choice. Can we say that being in a state of rebellion is also a free choice, rather than a psychological and social inevitability? Both of these social phenomena are unequivocally united by a collective desire – to break free. To sweat, move rhythmically, direct our bodies in one direction. To clap, chant, shout, and moan. To repetitively echo the sounds of hearts, drums, beats, and breaking glass.
With this performance, the author Agnietė Lisičkinaitė continues her characteristic exploration of how to embody protest through the means of stage expression. Together with graduates of the contemporary dance program at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, she seeks to create a continuous collective journey of movement toward liberation.
