STANDING TOGETHER WITH UKRAINE | CONCERT

To commemorate the decade of the war in Ukraine, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre invites people to stand with Ukraine. On 20 February, a concert featuring music by Lithuanian and Ukrainian composers will be performed by the professors of Academy, Chamber Choir and soloists from Ukraine, and broadcasted.

For many years, the Ukraine’s culture has been oppressed by the culture of the occupants. Today, in the invaded lands of Ukraine, every bit of anything Ukrainian is being ruthlessly destroyed. The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre invites young people, cultural communities, universities and other educational institutions, and all people of goodwill from Lithuania and all over the world to come together, stand in solidarity with Ukraine and support the growing European and free young generation of Ukrainians.

Taking place in the Great Hall of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, the concert will feature such distinguished Lithuanian musicians teaching at the Academy as violinist Rūta Lipinainytė, pianist Indrė Baikštytė, piano trio FortVio, saxophonist Petras Vyšniauskas, pianist Aleksandra Žvirblytė, singer and composer Raminta Naujanytė – Bjelle, and piano duo of Rūta Rikterė and Zbignevas Ibelhauptas. The Chamber Choir of the Academy will perform under the baton of Gintautas Venislovas and will premiere his composition dedicated on this occasion.

Concert programme also includes Ukrainian pieces performed by musicians from Odesa and Kyiv: soprano singer Larysa Loboda, professor at the Odessa National A. V. Nezhdanova Academy of Music, Viktor Rekalo, cellist, member of the Vilnius Quartet
