MEETING WITH ISRAEL COMPOSER AYAL ADLER
Ayal Adler’s compositions range in various genres, from solo, vocal, small and large chamber ensemble to orchestral works. His work Resonating Sounds for large orchestra was commissioned and premiered by Daniel Barenboim and the West- Eastern DIVAN Orchestra at the BBC Proms Festival, Lucerne, and Salzburg Festivals, and Cologne Theatre. Crystallization for large orchestra was re-premiered by Zubin Mehta and the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra. In recent years his music was performed in the United States, Canada, Far East, as well as in Israel, Germany, England, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, Czech Republic, Rumania, Croatia, etc. Adler’s works were premiered and performed in International Festivals, such as: the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival and the Jerusalem- Berlin Intonations Festival; International Society of Contemporary Music (ISCM); Asian Composers’ League (ACL); Lucerne; Salzburg; BBC Proms Festivals, and others. He has received several awards, including the Prime- Minister Award for Composers; “Achievement of the Year” ACUM award, and others.
Ayal Adler was born in Jerusalem. After receiving a diploma in piano and composition from the Rubin Conservatory, he enrolled in the Jerusalem Rubin academy of Music. There, he completed a B.Mus. and an Artist Diploma in composition (with Honors). He then pursued a Doctoral degree in composition at McGill University in Montreal. Dr. Adler is a full-time faculty member of composition and theory at the Jerusalem. Academy of Music and Dance since 2001. He was recently appointed as Chairman of Department of Composition and Conducting at the Jerusalem Academy (starting October 2017), and Director of the Israeli Composers’ League (ISCM).In addition, he serves at the Board of Trustees – Prime Minister Award.
Mr. Adler was nominated Composer-in-Residence for the McGill Symphony, Montreal, and Visby International Center for Composers, Sweden. He served as composer-in-residence for Meitar ensemble from 2006 -2012. Four compact discs containing his works were released in recent years. His music is published by the Israeli Music Institute (IMI) and the Israeli Music Center (IMC).
