Volt & Vibe is moving to the space of Ideas Block LT “Kompresorinė“ and invites Robotic Folk (Jonas Jurkūnas) and Gediminas Stepanavičius!

Gediminas Stepanavičius – “Kantrybė“

“ Kantrybė“ is a live electronics based interactive system for an improvising electroacoustic music performer. For this occasion the live electronics system “ Kantrybė“ is adapted for the double bass and ambisonic surround sound system.

Composer and performer Gediminas Stepanavičius is a young multi-instrumentalist of contemporary and experimental music. Studied in Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and Amsterdam Conservatory in Netherlands. Now based in Vilnius, he is an active participant of local and internatioinal music scene and is often heard in various classical, contemporary, improvised, jazz, world, folk and pop music projects.

Robotic Folk – “Volume one“

Robotic Folk is a solo project by Lithuanian composer and musician Jonas Jurkūnas, comes with a debut record on LOM named “ Volume One“ , subtitled “Artefacts Of Human Civilisation in Robotic Folklore“ . Jonas imagines a dystopian future, long after the end of our time, where robots reinvent and reuse the leftovers of human musical heritage left in the remains (and their RAM). New robotic folk spontaneously emerges from the ruins, sung by synthetic indigenous programs that evoke the history of our music-making ancestors. “Volume One“ comes out as a tape, a limited lathe-cut record and a digital release.

Jonas Jurkūnas (b. 1978) – composer, doctoral student at the Lithanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Studied jazz guitar at Vilnius Conservatoire (with S. Daugirdas), also sculpture at A. Vienožinskis art school. At the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre he studied with associate professor R. Kabelis, and professors V. Barkauskas and R. Janeliauskas. Under ERASMUS student exchange programme J. Jurkūnas studied at the Conservatorie National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon (with professors R. Pascal and D. Lorrain). J. Jurkūnas composes music in a broad range of musical genres – chamber, orchestral, vocal, electroacoustic. He has also written music for 14 films and 39 theatrical performances. J. Jurkūnas shares his acquired knowledge and experience as lecturer at Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, also at Kaunas University of Technology. Areas of research include unseen sound, the relation of music and sight, individual systems of composition and analysis of composition principles.
