Julius Kurauskas

Associate Professor, Department of Music, Klaipėda Faculty


Associate Professor of Classical Guitar Julius Kurauskas (1959), has worked at the LMTA since 1988. Graduated from the Lithuanian State Conservatory (LMTA), class of Jurgis Rimkevičius, assistantship – traineeship at the Moscow Gnesin Musical-Pedagogical Institute with Professor Alexander Frauchi. Assoc. Prof. J. Kurauskas is one of the promoters of Prof. Frauchi’s famous school of classical guitar. He has studied in Salzburg, Prague and Weimar. Winner of many competitions and festivals. He has given masterclasses in Poland, Portugal, Spain, Estonia, Latvia.

From 2003-2018 he worked as a visiting professor at the Latvian J. Vituols Academy of Music. As a soloist he has given solo concerts in Lithuania and abroad. He regularly participates in various international and national competitions as a jury member or chairman. He is the initiator and organiser of many competitions and festivals in Lithuania.

In 2006-2010 he founded and led a guitar orchestra, which consisted exclusively of doc. J. Kurauskas’ pupils. This orchestra was awarded the title of Vilnius Town Hall Guitar Orchestra by the Vilnius City Municipality. In 2009, the orchestra was awarded 1st prize in the international competition “Odessa Guitar Land”. Doc. J. Kurauskas’ students have performed excellently in many international and republican competitions, winning laureates’ titles, first prizes and Grand Prix awards.
