Academic Recognition

1. What is recognition of foreign qualifications?

The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) is officially authorised by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Lithuania to recognise foreign qualifications.

Recognition of foreign qualifications is a part of the admission process for applicants who obtained their education abroad.

This process allows checking whether your previous education meets Lithuanian higher education requirements and whether you are eligible to apply for the chosen study cycle (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral studies).

2. What is assessed during recognition?

The academic value of your foreign qualification is assessed by comparing it with a similar qualification of the same level awarded in Lithuania.

The following criteria are taken into account:
– quality of the qualification
– profile of studies
– study contents
– workload
– learning outcomes

Based on this assessment, the recognition process confirms:
– whether your qualification complies with Lithuanian higher education requirements;

– whether your qualification meets the requirements to apply for the relevant study cycle.

3. How long does the recognition process take?

Recognition is completed within one month after all required documents have been received.

If the assessment is delayed due to reasons beyond the applicant’s control, the applicant will be informed by e-mail.
