The aim of the programme is to train highly qualified dance art professionals who are able to think creatively and critically, analyse and evaluate the field of dance, to develop artistic identity and to make a responsible contribution to the development of dance art both nationally and internationally. The main focus of the programme is on artistic research, developing students’ theoretical and practical knowledge, which they continue to apply in group and individual lectures with supervisors and in independent creative activities. The semester-by-semester nature of the studies allows students to work intensively on personal artistic projects and collaborate with social partners in Lithuania and abroad.
The programme aims for a flexible study structure to allow students to maximise their potential and develop the competences necessary for professional activity. Students have the opportunity to choose supervisors for their creative activities and final Master’s thesis according to the nature and interests of the artistic research and the thesis topic, to collaborate with social partners in the implementation of artistic research activities and the Final Art Project. The programme also provides opportunities to gain international experience through partial or short-term study in exchange programmes, to participate in creative-artistic and/or research activities and educational and cultural projects.
Students can choose free electives at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) and the cooperating institutions – Vilnius University (VU) and Vilnius Academy of Arts (VDA). The free electives offered by the LMTA allow students to deepen their knowledge not only in their own field of study, but also in other fields of study, depending on their personal study interests and the list of electives, which is updated annually.
