The Theatre Department of the Klaipėda Faculty was established in 1975 and initially offered a Directing study programme, focusing on creative work with amateur theatre groups in cultural institutions. Since 1977, the department has been offering the Acting study programme. Graduates of the department successfully work in drama and puppet theatres, lead amateur theatre groups in cultural centers, organize, direct, and host events, establish event management companies, and engage in diverse cultural and project-based activities.

The Theatre Department offers:

  • Bachelor’s programme in Theatre Arts with specialisations in Theatre and Event Directing, Acting, and Puppet & Object Theatre. This program prepares multidisciplinary theatre arts professionals capable of applying their knowledge in creative, artistic, and professional fields.
  • Master’s programme in Theatre Arts with specialisations in Applied Theatre and Artistic Project Directing. This programme trains creators and researchers skilled in social, educational, forum, and improvisational theatre methods, as well as in stage directing and project-based work.

The Bachelor’s programme emphasizes practical training in directing, acting, and puppet & object theatre, while the Master’s programme allows students to deepen their knowledge and conduct independent theatre-based artistic research.

Students and Faculty

Currently, the Theatre Department has 74 students, taught by 26 experienced and highly qualified lecturers, whose pedagogical and artistic expertise provides a strong foundation for students’ studies.

Collaboration

The department actively collaborates with the Nordplus „Norteas“ network of theatre schools in the Nordic and Baltic countries, promoting academic exchanges and joint projects through Erasmus and Erasmus BIP short-term mobility programmes. Students gain practical experience through partnerships with professional state and independent theatres, including:
