The Department of Conducting was established in 1990 and has trained many Lithuanian conductors. The department’s faculty includes some of Lithuania’s most renowned conductors: Prof. Juozas Domarkas, Prof. Gintaras Rinkevičius, Prof. Robertas Šervenikas, Assoc. Prof. E. Ališauskas, Assoc. Prof. V. Visockis, Assoc. Prof. M. Barkauskas, and Prof. Dainius Pavilionis. All symphonic conducting educators are actively engaged in various musical activities in Lithuania and abroad. Their work includes concerts, competitions, festivals, educational initiatives, and collaborations with various orchestras.

For many years, the department was led by one of Lithuania’s most distinguished conductors, Prof. Juozas Domarkas (1990–2015). From 2015 to 2017, the head of the department was Assoc. Prof. Modestas Pitrėnas, and since 2017, it has been led by Prof. Dainius Pavilionis.

The Department of Symphonic Conducting represents the highest level of musical artistry and the tradition of conducting education in Lithuania. Its faculty and students actively participate in various activities, including national and international events, projects, and collaborations. The department is actively involved in national concerts and projects, international conducting competitions, and masterclasses. Its graduates and faculty members are frequently invited to conduct orchestras abroad, showcasing Lithuanian compositions. The Department of Symphonic Conducting enhances Lithuania’s international reputation, nurtures the next generation of conductors, and contributes to the development of Lithuanian musical culture.
