Department of Wind and Percussion Instruments
Established in 1945, the department has become a vital institution in nurturing Lithuania’s rich musical traditions. Over seven decades, it has trained numerous artists who represent Lithuania in international competitions, festivals, and concerts, and who perform in prestigious orchestras and ensembles both in Lithuania and abroad.
The department offers exceptional opportunities for aspiring soloists, chamber ensemble artists, and orchestra conductors. Specialisations of Wind and Percussions instruments are: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, cornet, trombone, tuba, euphonium, percussion instruments. The study programme of Music Performance:
- Bachelor’s Studies (4 years): Develops essential musical skills, creativity, and technical mastery. Graduates become soloists, orchestra or chamber ensemble artists, and educators.
- Master’s Studies (2 years): Offers specializations in solo performance, orchestral solo performance, chamber ensemble artistry, and orchestra leadership or teaching. These studies also provide opportunities for research and the development of musicology expertise.
Candidates’ professional skills are evaluated through entrance exams, ensuring that only the most talented students continue their musical journey in the department.
The department is proud to have three orchestras, which serve as both educational tools and performing ensembles:
- Symphony Orchestra
- Wind Orchestra
- Brass Orchestra
These ensembles participate in various projects, concerts, and festivals, providing students with invaluable stage experience.
The department is staffed by top professionals who not only impart technical skills but also foster artistic thinking and creative potential. Their dedication helps students reach the highest levels of musical performance, preparing them to compete on the global stage.
Wind Instruments and Percussion department works closely with the Conducting Department to train wind and symphonic orchestra leaders. This interdisciplinary approach broadens students’ career prospects and deepens their understanding of musical creation and performance.
In line with modern advancements, the department employs innovative teaching methods and state-of-the-art instruments to equip students with essential skills. Additionally, various research projects especially on master‘s level, explore performance technology and its impact on musicians.
Graduates of the Department of Wind and Percussion Instruments become:
